We took a walk around Dawn's neighborhood today. As you can see she lives in a very nice area. However notice all the 6-8 foot high concrete walls with barbed wire or electric fences on top of that. Safe huh?
There are also guard houses at most compounds that have more than one house in the complex.
Many are homes of the ambassadors from different countries that are living here. Dawn said I should probably not be taking their pictures. Uh oh!
Donald said he hasn't seen constantine wire like this since Viet Nam. |
The yards are all immaculate. You see gardeners everywhere.
More electricity!
I think it would take me a very long time to get used to driving clockwise around these corners & on the wrong side of the road!
Not to mention learning all signs. I would not know this meant bump except for the bump in the road. :)
In the distance you can see Waterkloof Air Force Base. This is where Air Force One landed bringing our Pres. to Mandela's funeral.
These birds are called Hadeda (ha-dee-da). They are all around. There is a nest in the tree behind Dawn's house. They are very LOUD.
On our way back Piper had to take an important phone call luckily she has a cell phone attached to her trike/stroller. (Just a minor detail).
This is where Dawn lives.
And this is the gate guards little house. He comes out and greets us every time we come or go.
There are 5 houses in this complex. The neighbor kids can play in this enclosed area.
Everyone has lots of bars on all the windows even the top floors and inside at the top of the stairs. These are all US employee homes.
This reminds me of the compounds in Saudi Arabia. Cool houses. Is Piper's hair getting blond??
